The Listening Eye

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

The Listening Eye is a literary arts journal that has published poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, and artwork since 1970 through Kent State University's Geauga Campus. The journal's 2024 call for submissions, The Health Issue, is now closed. Accepted contributors have been notified;  online publication anticipated early 2025 under the Issues tab of TLE's home page. 

The next call will open February 15  - May 15, 2025. New and established artists considered. For details, please make a free account at Submittable.com and search for The Listening Eye during the open call period.

Standard Guidelines:

  • Only submit original work neither published nor under simultaneous review elsewhere.
  • Submit  maximum of four poems of less than 750 words each.
  • Submit maximum of three short stories or nonfiction essays of less than 750 words each.
  • Submit maximum of six pieces of artwork (photography, drawing, design). Cover contest for artwork that relates by any stretch of the imagination to the magazine's title. Prefer vertical format.
  • Include brief bio (35-40 words).
