The Listening Eye
There are presently no open calls for submissions.
The Listening Eye (TLE) is a literary arts journal that has published poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, and artwork since 1970 through Kent State University's Geauga Campus. Beginning in 2022, TLE began publishing its issues exclusively online. A digitized version of the print semicentennial pandemic double issue, and the 2022-23 first online publication, may be found on the Issues tab of TLE's home page. All subsequent issues will also be published exclusively online.
Open calls, reading and production periods will now take place during the academic year. The next call will open October 15, 2025 through January 15, 2026. New and established artists considered. For details, please make a free account at Submittable.com and search for The Listening Eye during the open call period.
Standard Guidelines:
- Only submit original work neither published nor under simultaneous review elsewhere.
- Submit maximum of four poems of less than 750 words each.
- Submit maximum of three short stories or nonfiction essays of less than 750 words each.
- Submit maximum of six pieces of artwork (photography, drawing, design). Cover contest for artwork that relates by any stretch of the imagination to the magazine's title. Prefer vertical format.
- Include brief bio (35-40 words).
